The stuff about collinear points and B between A and C is a fancy way of saying

AB + BC = AC

(x + 6) + (3x - 5) = 36 - x

4x + 1 = 36 - x

5x = 35

x = 7

Check:

(7+6)+(3(7)-5) - (36-7) = 13 + 16 - 29 = 0 good

Answer:

The value of x is 7.

Explanation:

Here,

AB = x+6, BC = 3x-5, AC = 36-x

Such that A, B, and C are collinear points and B is between A and C,

That is, AC = AB + BC

Bys substituting the values,

⇒ 36 - x = x + 6 + 3x - 5

⇒ 36 - x = 4x + 1

⇒ 36 - x - 4x = 1

⇒ -5x = 1 - 36

⇒ -5x = -35

⇒ x = 7

Hence, the value of x is 7.
