First combine like terms:

6x - 8x = -2x

4x + 22 = -2x

Now add 2x to both sides:

4x + 2x = 6x

-2x + 2x = 0

6x + 22 = 0

Now subtract 22 from both sides:

22 - 22 = 0

0 - 22 = -22

6x = -22

Divide both sides by 6:

6x ÷ 6 = x

-22 ÷ 6 = -11/3 or -3 1/3

The answer is x = -11/3 or -3 1/3
