The contribution of anti-soviet protests in Poland contributed to the breakup of the Soviet Union because they served as an inspiration to people in the Russian countries to openly resist their governments and get Independence.

The first revolution of 1989 was in Poland. There, The Solidarity movement, the anti-Communist trade unionists, negotiated with the Communist government of Poland in order to have free elections. After this moment, peaceful revolutions movements in Eastern Europe started. In November, the Berlin Wall fell, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia ended the Communist government.

The Russian leader, Mikhail Gorbachev politics facilitated independence movements. The Baltic states declared their independence from Moscow. In December, the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine separated from the USSR.
