After the breakup of the Soviet Union, nearly every republic moved from a Communist economic system to a "mixed" economy, since they wanted to embrace capitalism but needed to transition from a "planned" economy first.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, nearly every republic moved from a Communist economic system to a mixed economy.

Prior to the breakup, the economy of the Soviet Union was based on a system of state ownership of the means of production, collective farming, industrial manufacturing and centralized administrative planning.

On the other hand, a mixed economy combines elements of planned economies, free markets with state interventionism, or private enterprise with public enterprise.
