How does water, fire, and trees help and hurt Katniss in the book The Hunger Games?

They are survial tools. For example, the fire is used for warmth and for her bow and arrow when shooting. Another example is the water she uses it to hide and escape quickly during the beginning of the game or uses it as a source of thirst. A final example is the trees she uses them as a way to climb up and scope out the area of where she can go or hide from other players

The trees can be used to make more arrows, but there's also a part of the book that shows the importance of water and also that Katniss makes a bed for her in a tree:

"There was a lake by the Cornucopia, and she’s worried it may be the only water source in the arena since it’s sure to be guarded by Career Tributes. Eventually it gets dark, so Katniss makes her bed in a tree and uses her belt to secure herself to a branch"

Katniss uses the trees to get away, but she also gets in trouble for climbing a tree and having no escape route, since the people that were hunting for her see her climbing and decide to wait for her.

Fire is Katniss's symbol and is also a surviving tool. As in, you can use fire to cook and to get warmer, but it can also make you reveal your position because of the sound, fire, and smoke. Eventually, the gamemakers even throw fireballs at Katniss. Katniss also gets things from sponsors because of her fame as "the girl on fire".
