A calorimeter is filled with 250.0 g of water at 24.6oC. A 60.0 g sample of a metal at 100.0 oC is dropped in this calorimeter and causes the temperature to increase a total of 4.5oC. What is the specific heat of the metal (in J/g°C)? Ignore the calorimeter in this problem

Answer : The specific heat of metal in this case will be 0.411 J/g°C

Explanation : Specific heat can be calculated by using the formula
Q = CmΔT

where Q is heat added which is 100 here
C is specific heat which needs to be found
m is mass of the metal
and ΔT is the temperature change

on substituting we get,

100 = x . 60 . 4.05

so, x = 0.411
