First, I would convert 1/4 into 3/12 to make solving easier:
Next, subtract 11/12 from each side to isolate the variable:
Divide each side by -1:
Finally, simplify 8/12 to get your answer:

Turn the 1/4 into a base of 12 by multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 3.
1/4 = 3/12.
Plug that into the equation.
11/12 - x = 3/12
Subtract 11/12 from both sides to get - x by itself.
- x = 3/12 - 11/12
This is the same as:
- x = (3 - 11) / 12
- x = - 8 / 12
Multiply both sides by - 1 to isolate variable X:
x = (- 8 / 12) * (- 1)
x = 8 / 12
