Suppose an SUV and a sports car were in an accident in which only their bumpers were in contact and the cars were not damaged. Both cars were going the same speed, but after the accident, the sports car is much farther from the site of impact than the SUV. This is best explained by

A. the law of gravity.
B. Newton's first law.
C. the law of conservation of momentum.
D. the fact that impact is equal to the product of mass and change in velocity.

The answer is D. As you can probably tell the "heavy hitter" will pack more of a punch, and therefore the sleeker, light-weight sports car will take more of a hit after colliding with a large SUV.
