As a result, Dakota has great difficulty in "processing sensory information from the left side of the body".

The somatosensory cortex gets all sensory input from the body. Cells that are a piece of the brain or nerves that reach out into the body are called neurons. Every neuron takes its data to a particular place in the somatosensory cortex. Next, that piece of the somatosensory cortex gets the opportunity to take a shot at making sense of what the data implies.
