Alicia and ben are transalating the following sentence

"Three less than two times a number is 15"

3 - 2x = 15 2x - 3 = 15

Who is correct and why

Hello!

When you say three less than something you don't put 3-x before. That is saying that it is x less than 3, not 3 less than x. Alicia did just that. She put 3- something before which does not accurately resemble the sentence.

On the other hand, Ben subtracts 3 from 2x, meaning that Ben is correct.
