I believe that the correct answer is A. The depths of human depravity are the true nightmares we sometimes have to confront.

Elie Wiesel describes many instances in his experience during the Holocaust showing people reverting to primaries, horrifying, and desperate actions in the attempt to survive when deprived of everything necessary to sustain life. This can be seen in the event where the Jews were held in cramped cars and a small bit of bread was tossed in and people clawed at each other and brawled in an attempt to get the small bit of food. Instances such as these lead me to believe that A is the correct answer.

I haven’t read the book in a year, but I hope this helps! :)
