3.14x9= 28.26

The lateral area of the cylinder is the area of the rectangle.
The width of the rectangle is 17 mm.
We need the length of the rectangle.
The length of the rectangle is the same as the circumference of the base.
The base is a circle with a diameter of 9 mm.


C=\pi * d=\pi*9~cm=9\pi~cm


lateral ~area = length * width


lateral ~area = 9 \pi ~mm * 17 ~mm


lateral ~area = 153 \pi ~mm^2
