What is another term for the calories used to process food? Why isn't this aspect of metabolism a significant part of a weight loss plan?

The thermic effect of food is another term for the calories used to process food. Processing food from meals consumes only about 5-10% of total calories and is not enough to cause a significant effect in a weight loss plan. Drinking cold drinks or eating cold food may increase the total calories used but it is not as significant as it seems.
