John and 3 friends are going out for pizza for lunch. They split one pizza and 4 large drinks. The pizza cost $13.00. After using a $6.00 gift certificate, they spend a total of $13.20. Write an equation to model this situation, and find the cost of one large drink. 4d + $13.00 – $6.00 = $13.20; $1.55 4d – $13.00 + $6.00 = $13.20; $6.73 3d + $13.00 – $6.00 = $13.20; $2.07 4d + $13.00 – $6.00 = $13.20; $1.60

A.4d+$13.00-$6.00=$13.20 is your answer.

The reason for this is :

Step One : Start with what you know
($13.00-$6.00)

Then make a full equation based on what you need to find out.($7.00+4d)/4=(13.20)/4
Start simplifying.
(1.75+d)-1.75=(3.3)-1.75
Continue to simplify for your answer.
d=1.55
1.55 is the answer.
(A is your answer.)

Hi!

Let's write the equation.

amount of drinks × drink cost + pizza cost - gift certificate = total
4 × d + 13 - 6 = 13.20

4d + 13 - 6 = 13.20

Now let's solve for d.
4d + 7 = 13.20
Subtract 7 from both sides.
4d + 7 - 7 = 13.20 - 7
4d = 6.20
Divide by 4 on both sides.
4d/4 = 6.20/4
d = 1.55

The answer is 4d + $13 - $6 = $13.20; $1.55

Hope this helps! :)
