Hi!

First, let's use the distribution property.

To do that, multiply the values in the parentheses by the number outside of the parentheses.
2 · x = 2x
2 · -2 = -4
2x - 4 = 6

Remember that whatever we do to the equation we have to do it to both sides.

We need to isolate x on one side. So first let's add 4 to both sides.
2x - 4 + 4 = 6 + 4
2x = 10
Divide by 2 on both sides.
2x/2 = 10/2
x = 5

The answer is x = 5

Solve for x

2(x - 2) = 6

2(x) = 2x
2(-2) = -4

2x - 4 (+4) = 6 (+4)
