Part A: The sun produces 3.9 ⋅ 10^33 ergs of radiant energy per second. How many ergs of radiant energy does the sun produce in 2.45 ⋅ 10^5 seconds? (5 points)

Part B: Which is the more reasonable measurement of the diameter of a blood cell:
7.4 ⋅ 10^−3 mm or 7.4 ⋅ 10^3 mm? Justify your answer. (5 points)

Pt A: The sun produces about 6.045*10^40 ergs in 3.25*10^3 seconds.
Pt B: the distance between each track on a railroad is very small so having a smaller measurement would be more reasonable

Part A: To find how much the sun produces in 2.45 ·
10^3 , we need to multiply the rate per second by the number of seconds we want the answer to have. This gives us:
2.45 ·
10^3 · 3.9 ·
10^(33) =
= 9.555 ·
10^(36)

That gives the answer of 9.555 ·
10^(36) ergs

Part B: The more reasonable measurement of the diameter of a blood cell is 7.4 ·
10^-3 mm. That's because by saying the diameter of a blood cell is 7.4 ·
10^3 mm, you are saying the diameter is 7.4 meters!
