Customers can pick their own blueberries at blueberry hill. They pay$5 to enter the patch and $4 per pound for the blueberries they pick. Write an equation to model the total cost, y, for x pounds of blueberries.

Answer:

y = 4x + 5

Explanation:

y = total costs to get the berries

x = pounds of berries.


\bf \stackrel{cost}{y}=\stackrel{\textit{4 bucks per pound}}{4x}+\stackrel{\textit{fixed rate just to step in the market}}{5}

bearing in mind that the $5 is just to get in, so is only paid once, whilst the pounds of berry will vary.
