let
x---------> number of adults
y--------> number of students

we know that
x+y=101-------> x=101-y-------> equation 1
2.50x+1.50y=186.50-------> equation 2

substitute equation 1 in equation 2
2.50*[101-y]+1.50y=186.50-----> 252.5-2.50y+1.50y=186.50
y=252.5-186.50------> y=66
x=101-y------> x=101-66-------> x=35

therefore
number of adults is 35
number of students is 66
