I believe the black mask absorbs all light while the golden absorbs everything but whatever color it is that makes a golden hue.

This is because black is void of all colors. when something has a certain pigment, you immediately know that all colors are absorbed acept for the one you can see because it reflects off of it and the waves hit your eyes just right, making it come off as that color. (I believe)
