I picked up 15 shells and my brother picked up 3 more shells than I did. How many shells did my brother pick up?

Let's put this into an equation.
You picked up 15. So that means you=15.
You brother = X
He picked up three more than you. Since you=15, the equation would look like:
15+3=X
Now add so that there is one number.
15+3=18=X
So, your brother picked up 18 shells.
Tell me if this helps!!!

Let you = y
Let your brother = b

y = 15
b = y + 3

Plug in 15 for y

b = 15 + 3
b = 18

Your brother picked up 18 shells.

Hope this helps
