Macular Degration is the condition develops as the eye ages. Therefore doesn't have anything to do with smoking so this statement is "True" or the first option. Macular Degration caused by a problem with part of the eye called the macula. When the eye ages for most people it would cause blindness such how when the ear causes deafness. Most of the common cases would be smoking. This disease mainly effects a particular race which is Caucasian but it also comes into effect from aging, family history, (from other family members who had the disease) and being addicted to smoking.

Hope this helps!
