Which crop failed, resulting in the death of thousands of irish in the 1840s?

During the Great Famine, also known as the Potato Famine, a fungus infested potato crops, making them inedible. Thousands of people starved to death, and thousands more emigrated from Ireland.

I guess it was the potatoes which was attacked by fungus and caused death of people
