I'm assuming that the correct answer to this problem was a, but I'm not sure why. How do I know when to use sin and when to use cosine when writing the equation for simple harmonic motion? I have attached a picture of the question by the way.

Always remember SOHCAHTOA!!
Sin- Opposite over Hypotenuse
Cos- Adjacent over Hypotenuse
Tan- Opposite over Adjacent
