13 and the previous 8 is. 21
21 and the previous 13. Is 34
34+ 21 = 55

He adds a higher number to the original summed number every time:

3(+2), 5(+3), 8(+5), 13(+8), 21(+13), 34


From +2 to +3 there is a difference of 1.
From +3 to +5 there is a difference of 2. Observe how the numbers increase
From +5 to +8 there is a difference of 3.
