Ceausescu's Downfall was caused by economic/financial reasons. He had borrowed heavily from the West to the extent that he drove the nation into bankruptcy by 1989. As a result, he was compelled to sell many Romanian raw materials and set strict regulations on his citizens. This went to the extent that he even tried to force pregnancies in order to increase the population.
