The answer is with out  a doubt A. The type of cut demonstrates a transverse plane, and because this is the front of the knee, it is referred as anterior.

Anterior = towards the front
Posterior = towards the back
Transverse = horizontal, separating into top and bottom halves
Sagittal = longitudinal/vertical, separating into left and right halves

Since you can see the knee in the diagram, the cut is through the anterior side. The line also runs horizontally, making the cut transverse.
