Now you could apply the Pythagorean theorem...
And you could use trigonometry...
But it would be much easier if you applied the 30-60-90 triangle theorem which states that the hypotenuse is twice as long as the shorter leg, and the longer leg is radical three times as long as the shorter leg.

hypotenuse = 16 (given)
shorter leg/ AB = 8
