On december 1st, 1955, Rosa parks, a tailors assistant, who was tired after a hard days work, refused to give up her seat to a white man. After the arrest of Rosa Parks, Martinand his friends, Ralph David Abernathy, Edgar Nixon, and Bayard Rustin helped organize protests against bus segregation. This is how it all began. As a result to the civil rights movement, African Americans are now as equal as whites. Thats what they would have americans believe and although African Americans have more rights and can hold office to good jobs, there is still racism going on to this day. .Schools were de-segregated; blacks could sit wherever they wanted on buses; use the same drinking fountains; eat at the same restaurants; play in the same sports leagues; and many other things like that. The Korean War was the first wart where blacks and whites fought in the same regiments alongside each other.
Withought the civil rights movement, African american would have never have the same rightes as whites do today. They would have not been able to drink from the same water fountain or even go to the same restaraunts! That is how the civil rights movement changed the life of americans and why it was important to us. ( Had a similar essay i had to do about a month ago so I pasted some of the things I wrote there)
