George Washington viewed that if the US were 'divided', they would fall apart. Political parties divided people into 'schools of thoughts' and they generally tried to gain the upper hand by appointing people who have the same opinion as them to the government. This divided people into two main parties (first it was Federalists and Democratic- Republican, now it is Democrat and Republican), as well as some smaller ones.
