At the beginning of the story, Beowulf sails from Geatland to Denmark to see Hrothgar. Beowulf had heard that Hrothgar and his people were being terrorized by a monster. So, Beowulf takes his warriors and sails to Denmark to defeat Hrothgar's monster, Grendel.
