What is the outlier in this set:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1000

(I know the outlier is 1000)

What is the best measure of center and spread in this case?

(I'm thinking that the best measure of center is the median, but I don't understand the 'spread' part and how to find it.)

Since 1000 is a much larger number, Median would be the best way to determine the center.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1000

The Median would be 5 + 6 = 11 / 2 = 5.5

The spread would be the difference between the highest and lowest numbers: 1000 - 1 = 999
