the mean absolute deviation would be 4

Explanation:

Mean: 2 + 8 + 10 + 16 = 36/4 = 9

9 - 2 = 7

9 - 8 = 1

9 - 10 = 1

9 - 16 = 7

7 + 1 + 1 + 7 = 16/4 = 4

MAD = 4
(2+8+10+16)=36
36/4=9
Now subtract 9 from every number BUT you only put the absolute value
2-9..............7
8-9.............1
10-9............1
16-9............7
Total........ 16

16/4 = 4
