lets have x represent adults and y represent kids
y=12x
8y+10x=2862
8(12x)+10y=2862
now the equation is completely set up and all you have to do is solve

a=adults
c=children

12a=c —> sub
8c+10a=2862

8(12a)+10a=2862
96a+10a=2862
106a=2862
a=27

12(27)=c
c=327

therefore 27 adult tickets and 327 children tickets were sold.

hope this helps :)
