Transitioning from 4^x to 4^(x+1) involves shifting the graph of 4^x 1 unit to the LEFT. From there, shifting the graph downward 2 units produces the new graph (with one horiz. translation and one vertical translation).

one unit left. two units down.

because 1 is added to the power (x), we shift the graph one to the left.

the -2 on the end refers to the position of the asymptote from where it originally was. so it effectively means two down.
