okay so...
x² = 5x + 24 move it, so one side equals zero.
x² - 5x - 24 =0 factors of 24 is 3 and 8 when you subtract 8 from 3 you get -5.
(x+3)(x-8)
x+3= 0 or x-8=0
x= -3 or x=8

b. 2x² - 5x + 1=0
quadratic formula = -b +-√b²-4ac / 2a
a= 2 b= -5 c=1
-(-5) +-√(-5)² - 4(2)(1) / 2(2)

5+-√25 - 8 / 4
=5 +- √17 / 4

x= 5/4 + √17 / 4 or x= 5/4 - √17/4

i couldn't find the plus-minus sign that why there's (+-)
i hope this helps! :)
