He was born in Poland, and served as the catholic church pope and sovereign of Vatican city from 1972. Some catholic prefers to call him saint John Paul the great. during his tour of his birth country, Poland, he urged the polish communist governments to grant its citizens liberties and rights.John Paul II is recognized as helping to end Communist rule in his native Poland and eventually all of Europe.This course could also have costed his life.
