Pericles describe Athenian democracy:

Democracy should favor the majority of the people, not just a select few. It should allows equal justice, despite social class, and also extends freedom to ordinary lives.Athenian was the first form of democracy, practiced directly by the adult male citizens of Athens. The fact that women, slaves and foreigners were not allowed to participate does not warrant making the state undemocratic.
