44 a student did 3/5 of his homework and 8 more problems. then his father came and did one fifth of the homework and the remaining 7 problems. how many problems did they solve?

Together they did 4/5 of the homework and 15 more problems. We assume that is all the homework, so that 15 problems constitutes the remaining 1/5 of the homework.

Together they solved 15/(1/5) = 75 problems.
