Ah. Here is the theory to help you.
Given a quadratic equation

ax^(2) + bx + c = 0
the quadratic formula gives

x = (-b \pm √(4ac))/(2a)

So here, with your equation

y = 4x^(2) - 3x - 9 = 0
you have

x = (-(-3) \pm √(4 * 4 * (-9)))/(2 * 4)
