The easiest way it to solve it.

{x}^(2) + 5x + 2 = 0
You have

\rho = 25 - 4 * 1 * 2 = 17
Thus

x = ( - 5 \pm √(17) )/(2)

Answer:

x=(-5+√(17))/(2) and
x=(-5-√(17))/(2)

Explanation:

x^2 + 5x = -2

To solve for x, make right hand side 0

Add 2 on both sides.

x^2 + 5x +2=0

Apply quadratic formula to solve for x

a=1, b=5, c= 2

x=(-b+-√(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

Plug in the values and find out x

x=(-b+-√(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

x=(-5+-√(5^2-4(1)(2)))/(2(1))

x=(-5+-√(17))/(2)

x=(-5+√(17))/(2) and
x=(-5-√(17))/(2)
