When there are 2 different genes for a trait, that organism is said to be a what?

The answer is diploid. This is one of the possible ploidy (which is the number of complete sets of chromosomes in a cell) in an organism. Humans are an example of a diploid organism. Plants have even higher sets of chromosomes (more than 2). Some have 4 and are referred to as tetraploids
