For this case we can solve the problem by making the following rule of three:
1 acre ------------> 4 cows
500 acres -------> x
From here, we clear the value of x.
We have then:

x = (500/1) * (4)
Calculating the value of x we have:

x = 2000 cows
Answer:
there are 2,000 cows on the acreage

we know that
Population density is a measurement of population per unit area
so
in this problem
Population density=total cows/total area
solve for total cows
total cows=population density*total area
total cows=4*500------> 2000 cows

the answer is
2000 cows
