`5D`. We also know the total money is $43 and the total time is 8hours. Therefore:


`B+D=8`

`6B+5D=43`

To solve: First rearrange equation 1 to solve for either
`B` or
`D` (doesn't matter which, I'll use
`B`):


`B=8-D`

Now substitute into equation 2:

`6(8-D)+5D=43`
and solve for
`D`

`48-6D+5D=43`

`-D=-5`

`D=5`

Now backsubstitute to solve for
`B`:

`B=8-D`

`B=8-5`

`B=3`

She babysat for 3 hours and walked dogs for 5.

To check our work:

`6B+5D=43`

`6(3)+5(5)=43`

`18+25=43`
