LM=ON and
LO=MN. Since we are interested only in finding the value of the variable y, we will take the equation:


LM=ON

Now, from the diagram,
LM=3y-6 and
ON=2y+4 . Thus, we get:


3y-6=2y+4

Rearranging and simplifying we get:


3y-2y=6+4


\therefore y=10
