-2y-4=4(y-1)

Always remove the pararentheses as your first step.

-2y-4 = 4y - 4

Combine like terms.

-2y - 4y = 4 - 4

-6y = 0

Divide both sides by -6 to find y.

-6y/-6 = 0/-6

y = 0

Done
