The average weight per adult is 150 pounds, and the average weight per child is 40 pounds . The maximum weight is 1,500 pounds. Suppose there are ten children in the elevator how many adults can get in.

If the lift can have 1,500pounds you will have to subtract the children first.
40pounds x 10children=400pounds
1500pounds-400pounds=1100

Then you will have to do
1100 / 150 to work out the adults amount

The equals 7.33 so you would need to round it down ,

therefore 7adults can fit in the lift

With the ten children already in the elevator, the weight is at 400 pounds. Therefore you have 1,100 pounds before reaching the maximum weight. So about 7 adults can get in.
