The chemical reaction of reduction results in addition of hydrogen (H) or loss of oxygen (O) from a molecule.
When oxides, like iron oxide (Fe2O3) react with carbon (C) the iron oxide gets reduced to iron (Fe) and carbon gets oxidized to carbon dioxide CO2.
