The speech signaled a shift to internationalism. The isolationists wanted to avoid foreign affairs and wars. They wanted the U.S. to keep to themselves. Internationalists agreed with Roosevelt and believed that everyone in the world should enjoy the 4 freedoms that Roosevelt talked about. They believed the U.S. should be involved and help others.
