Displacement is the change in position of an object/person and the distance between the initial point and the final point. The path that the person/object takes to get to that final point does not matter!

The easiest way to picture their walk is drawing it out (see image). You can see that they start at the blue dot and end at the green dot. The distance between the blue and green dot is 2 blocks.
