The idea that you'll get cramps from drinking water while running is a common myth among runners. ... If you avoid drinking during runs because you're worried about cramps,you could end up with much bigger problems, such as dehydration or heat stroke.

To add to the previous answer;

This is why you drink water and eat well (such as eating fruits or a good meal) long before running, in Cross Country I brought fruits with me to school and ate them in my last period, roughly an hour later we started running.

Many times I accidentally drank water because I forgot, and it utterly ruined my experience. However, if you did not drink any, it is better you drink and cramp (in which case force yourself to breathe in through your nose and out your mouth), then pass out. I've seen many people pass out in Cross Country; it's very scary.

Point is, yes water will give cramps, so make sure you drink long before running, and rinse your mouth with water before running, and if you haven't drank anything, then drink some water.

Have a nice day!
